Patricia BT has put forward a proposal to explore the possibility of organizing a Community Summit alongside a flagship WordPress event in 2027 or 2028 and is inviting members of the community to share feedback, indicate interest, and contribute ideas, including potential involvement in planning and organizing the event.
The Starting Point
Patricia BT first raised the possibility of organizing a Community Summit in November 2025 in the #community-team Slack channel,” Open floor: I’ll just repeat my questions from past months. Is there any plan for a Community Summit alongside a flagship event in 2027? 2028? So future organisers know about it (when applying to be the host city)“

In response, Isotta Peira ( Program Manager at Automattic and head of the WordPress Credits Program) encouraged interested community members to start a discussion and publish a post outlining their ideas so others can contribute, with an organizing team to be formed if it moves forward, “ I’m not involved in any conversation about an upcoming community summit for now. If you and others community members want to organize it, please start a discussion and publish a post with what you have in mind so everyone can chime in and if it moves forward, an organizing team can be created.”

Planning the 2027-2028 Community Summit
Patricia BT outlined the proposal to explore organizing a Community Summit alongside a flagship WordPress event in 2027 or 2028, such as WordCamp Asia or WordCamp Europe, noting that the most recent Summit was held in the United States in 2023.
She called on community members, both from those regions and the broader WordPress community, to offer their input and potentially get involved in planning and organizing the Summit, “ This post is an invitation to Community members from those regions, or from the Community at large, to chime in, share perspectives, and, as a next step, potentially take on roles in shaping and organizing the Summit.”
The key aspects involved in organizing a Community Summit were highlighted, and they include coordination with local teams on logistics such as venue and catering, collaboration with WordPress leadership and the WordPress Foundation to ensure alignment and support, and the development of a program that reflects current community topics, challenges, and opportunities while enabling meaningful discussions.
The past Community Summits, noting their role in supporting the WordPress project. She referenced earlier editions, including those held in 2012, 2014, 2017, and 2023.
Interested community members are invited to leave a comment by April 30, 2026, if they would like to help organize the Community Summit.
