There is great news for WordPress lovers all over the world – for the 11th time in a row, WordPress has maintained its position as the fastest-growing CMS with a market share of 39.5%. According to the statistics released by W3Techs, it powers more websites than all the other Content Management Systems combined.
WordPress was born in 2002 as a forked version of the then famous blogging tool b2/cafelog. In 2015, it was used by just 25% of websites. In just 5 years it has grown to acquire an amazing 39.5% market share. The stats may be mind-boggling but totally expected from a CMS as powerful as WordPress. We have already done a detailed article on why WordPress is the best CMS for business.
The contribution of WooCommerce to WordPress should also be mentioned here. According to W3Techs, WooCommerce is used by 12.0% of all the websites whose content management systems are known. This is 7.4% of all websites.
Some of the popular sites using WordPress are Zoom, Microsoft, Udemy.com, Zillow.com, Tokopedia.com and Grammarly.com. The websites of Tripadvisor, Cambridge University Press, and la Republica have been developed recently in WordPress too.
Well, it seems WordPress is firmly set on a path to conquer greater heights in 2021. WordPress.com has already announced the launch of its new website building service starting at $4,900. Let’s hope 2021 turns out to be another fascinating year for WordPress.
