WordPress Credits is introducing five new sponsorship tiers for 2027 as the program looks to secure funding for its growing needs, including curriculum development, translation, and tooling. The new tiers will offer companies different ways to support the program, from in-kind mentorship to funding an entire program, as part of a pilot that will be reviewed and adjusted based on the results.
New sponsorship tiers offer companies multiple ways to support the program
Explaining the need for a new sponsorship structure, Isotta Peira outlined why the program is exploring additional ways to fund its work, โThe program has reached the point where curriculum, translation, tooling, and the work of bringing new institutions on board all need steady funding behind them, and our current sponsorship setup was never designed for that. So weโre piloting new ways to support the program and the students, from in-kind mentorship through to funding an entire program.โ
The Friend tier recognises companies that sponsor mentors through Five for the Future. Benefits include a company listing on the partner page at wordpresseducation.org, a mention in a mentor feature and acknowledgement in a sponsor thank-you post.
The Supporter tier, priced at $5,000 a year, includes all Friend benefits, along with a company logo and description on the partner page, a website badge and the annual program report. At $10,000 a year, the Backer tier adds recognition for the specific part of the program being funded, a report covering that cost and a sponsor-written educational post about the sponsored product on wordpresseducation.org.
The Champion tier, priced at $15,000 annually, includes all benefits from the lower tiers, plus an additional sponsor-written post containing factual, value-neutral information about other products, an invitation to the annual education partners session and an opportunity to co-host a webinar or event with the education program.
Starting at $30,000 a year, the Partner tier includes all benefits of the preceding tiers. It also allows a company to fund a complete, named program, become its exclusive program partner, receive recognition in launch communications and obtain a report specific to the funded program. Potential initiatives could include translating WordPress into languages with limited coverage, working on accessibility or building websites for nonprofit organisations that could not otherwise commission them. The program is also open to developing other initiatives with sponsors based on needs within the WordPress ecosystem.
Companies at any sponsorship level may separately donate products for students to use. The products must be available free of charge, without requiring credit card details, and students must have a way to export or transfer their work. The program will determine how donated products are distributed.
Weglot and Automattic have supported WordPress Credits since its early development. Other sponsors include WPBakery, Hostinger, DreamHost, Hosting.com, Raiola Networks, Cloud86, Smarthost, Villa Sostaga, Elementor, miniOrange and Novamira. Their contributions include mentor sponsorships and products for students, while mentors supported through Five for the Future have guided students across successive cohorts.
Companies interested in joining can apply through the program’s application form or contact the team through the #wpcredits channel on Slack or at [email protected].
