In a recent development, Josepha Haden Chomphosy, the Executive Director of WordPress, has announced that Jamie Marsland will oversee the WordPress YouTube channel.
Who’s Jamie Marsland?
For those who don’t know, Jamie is a well-known figure in the WordPress community. He is the founder of Pootlepress and has trained over 5000 people on WordPress in the past 10 years, his various plugins such as Gutenberg Pro, Block Injector, WooBuilder Blocks, Storefront Blocks, Storefront Pro, WooHoo Bar, and more are used by many.
He is also the founder of the very popular WordPress Speed Build Challenge. His YouTube channel currently has over 100k subscribers and his content spans various categories and focuses on both beginners as well as WordPress experts.
The Path Forward
The official WordPress YouTube channel has seen considerable growth both in the number of views and user engagement Josepha said, “ Since 2023, we’ve experienced a 6x increase in monthly views and engagement, driven by the growing availability of WordPress content. Since October 2022, when WPTV content began syncing automatically with YouTube, to the design iterations in 2023 and our participation in the Nonprofit YouTube Partner Program—removing ads from our videos—our channel has become a trusted source of information and inspiration.”
Building on this momentum, handing over the reins of the official channel to Jamie is a strategic move, leveraging his expertise in crafting content that consistently meets all the right criteria. She added, “ He will oversee the creation of high-quality content, ensuring our channel remains a valuable resource and a source of inspiration for WordPress enthusiasts worldwide while inspiring and empowering other open-source content creators to further the movement.”
Following Josepha’s official announcement, Jamie announced his new role and responsibility to the community via X.
In his announcement, he specifically stated that his YouTube channel and plugins will be maintained despite taking up this new venture, “ My YouTube channel will continue (now 100k subscribers) and Pootlepress plugins will continue to be maintained”.
