Matt Mullenweg has announced that Mary Hubbard will take on the role of Executive Director of WordPress.org, starting on October 21, 2024. Mary Hubbard will succeed Josepha Haden Chomphosy, who recently stepped down from the role of Executive Director along with other 159 employees.

Mary Hubbard is stepping into her new role after serving as Head of TikTok Americas, Governance and Experience. Prior to that, she held several significant leadership positions at Automattic, where she initially started as GM of Marketplace and then became the Chief Product Officer for WordPress.com.
Her broad experience spans multiple industries, including roles at eBay as Director of Verticals Business, Head of Seller Experience at Walmart eCommerce, Vice President of Digital and Delivery at Assurant, and Chief Product Officer at TruRating.
Matt on Hacker News specified that her role at WordPress.org will be broader, “The scope will be significantly broader as Mary brings a lot of talents to the ecosystem.”
