- WordPress 6.2 Beta 2 released: Beta 2 includes fixes for ~71 issues along with the most recent Gutenberg plugin 15.1 release. It also has an important fix for how lazy loading is handled in block themes.
- Industry-wide tech layoffs impacting WordPress professionals: Layoffs.fyi, a layoffs tracking website, has logged 376 tech companies with total of 107,930 employees laid off. WP companies like GoDaddy, XWP, Human Made have already published their layoff plans. Easily Amused, Trew Knowledge, SiteCare, and other companies across Twitter, Mastodon, and LinkedIn are stepping up to help people find new work.
- Meetup.com follows through on commitment to improve website accessibility: Accessibility team reports that Meetup.com has completed an assessment with Deque, a well-respected accessibility consultancy. The assessment identified 732 issues that need to be resolved, which Meetup.com plans to address through two phases.
- LinkedIn: Top 10 in-demand skills in 2023: The top five skills in demand for 2023 are management, communication, customer service, leadership, and sales. The top five hard skills include software development, SQL, finance, Python, and Java.
- Susan Wojcicki, the CEO of YouTube, is stepping down: Susan Wojcicki has been with Google since its infancy, in fact, the first Google offices were out of her garage.
- Microsoft proposes AI ads in Bing: Microsoft has not provided a timeline for when brands can directly purchase ads within the chatbot.
- Google warns against using 403 or 404 status codes for Googlebot crawl rate limiting: Google is warning against using 404 and other 4xx client server status errors, such as 403s, for the purpose of trying to set a crawl rate limit for Googlebot. Instead, Google recommends you use Google Search Console’s crawl rate feature.
- Meta is bringing the blue verification badge to Facebook and Instagram: Meta Verified now allows users to acquire the highly sought-after blue verification badge on their Instagram and Facebook accounts. Users can achieve this by verifying their identity for a monthly fee of up to $15. Meta Verified is now available in New Zealand and Australia
🚨Web Security & Vulnerabilities
- Authenticated Local File Inclusion (LFI) vulnerability in Rank Math SEO plugin: This vulnerability allows any authenticated user with minimum Contributor role to perform local file inclusion with limited .php file extension on the WordPress server. Please update the plugin to at least version 1.0.107.3.
- Vulnerability in ShortPixel Enable Media Replace plugin: A high severity vulnerability was discovered in the plugin that could allow an attacker to upload arbitrary files.
- WordPress sites backdoored with ad fraud plugin: About 50 WordPress blogs have been backdoored with a plugin called fuser-master. The plugin contains JavaScript code that mimics the activity of a real visitor: scrolls the page, clicks on links, etc.
- GoDaddy fingers hacking campaign for 3-year run of breaches: Internet domain registrar GoDaddy says it is the victim of a yearslong hacking campaign that installed malware on internal systems and obtained source code.

DigitalOcean waves goodbye to 11 percent of staff: DigitalOcean told staff it was laying off about 11 percent, or approximately 200 employees. It has also conducted a management reorganization. Carly Brantz, chief marketing officer for DigitalOcean, will depart on April 1, 2023. - Redundancies at Human Made: This happened at the company for the first time and it is trying to connect laid-off employees with opportunities elsewhere.
