- WordPress 6.2 Beta 3 has arrived: This phase of the release addresses approximately 34 issues. Contributors will host a live product demo on March 2 via Zoom. Don’t forget to help test WordPress 6.2.
- Gutenberg, 15.2 is out: It has an improved template editing experience allowing users to enjoy a better editing experience with more efficient and intuitive controls.
- New proposal seeks to update WordPress release process: WordPress lead developer Andrew Ozz has published a proposal for the addition of a new “gutenberg-merge” ticket type that would formalize the latitude Gutenberg contributors have been given for committing code after Feature Freeze during the release cycle.
- Proposal to modify the Events and News widget to show topic-based meetups worldwide: Cate DeRosia discusses proposed changes to the Events API that displays upcoming events from Meetup.com meetup groups in the WordPress admin dashboard widget.
- Openverse Integration in WordPress 6.2: WordPress 6.2 is set to introduce an integration with Openverse that allows users to insert free, openly-licensed media into their content quickly. WordPress core contributor Paul Biron confirmed images are hotlinked when first inserted but can be added to the site’s Media Library using the “Upload” tool.
- WooCommerce changes WordPress core support policy: Under the new policy, WooCommerce will support the latest version of WordPress and the previous version starting with WooCommerce 7.8 in June of 2023.
- The GA4 migration deadline is right around the corner: The deadline to opt out of the Google Analytics 4 auto migration is February 28 as Google is sunsetting Universal Analytics (UA) on July 1st.
- Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing Search now on mobile: Microsoft has introduced a new AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge web browser for mobile devices. It also introduced AI-powered Bing for Skype, which enables users to add Bing to a group and ask questions for the entire group to see.
- TikTok banned from EU Commission phones over cybersecurity: In a first for the European Commission, its Corporate Management Board suspended the use of TikTok on devices issued to staff or personal devices that staff use for work.
- Google Search remains the go-to news discovery platform: Google Search remains the top platforms for U.S. adults to research major news events but Gen Z seems to be more inclined to head to TikTok than other generations, according to a new survey.
- Google’s bringing some formerly exclusive pixel features to its Android and iOS Subscription Service: The caveat is that you must subscribe to Google One to access capabilities previously limited to Pixel 6/7 owners.
