📰 WordPress & Around

• WordPress 6.2 Beta 4 is out: This release contains more than 292 enhancements and 354 bug fixes for the editor, including more than 286 tickets for the WordPress 6.2 core. It was postponed from February 28th to March 1st.
• WordPress 6.2 RC1 postponed: The release party for WordPress 6.2 Release Candidate 1 will be postponed from March 7th to March 9th due to a regression in the Site Editor found as far back as Beta 1. An additional Beta 5 will be released on March 7th.
• New monthly newsletter from Learn WordPress: This consolidated newsletter will share the newest content available to learners.
• Google Fonts to be included locally in bundled themes: Due to privacy concerns, the themes from Twenty Twelve to Twenty Seventeen will not fetch their fonts from Google addresses, starting with the next version.
• WordPress Themes Team proposes Community Themes initiative: Automattic-sponsored core contributor Maggie Cabrera published a proposal that seeks to extend the new era of increased design contribution through a Community Themes project. This initiative may offer an easier onramp for theme developers still getting into block theming.
• WordPress community on Mastodon launches “Toot the Word” survey: Daniel Auener and the other admins of the five largest WordPress-related Mastodon instances have created a survey for WordPress users.
• OpenAI’s ChatGPT & Whisper API now available for developers: OpenAI has made its ChatGPT and Whisper models available on its API, which offers developers access to AI-powered language and speech-to-text capabilities.
• Microsoft Bing Chat launches quality improvements: Microsoft released version 96 of the Bing AI chat feature that brings quality improvements such as a higher response rate to chats and also fewer “hallucinations.”

🔥WordPress 6.2 Features

• Accessibility Improvements: An overview of the many accessibility improvements and fixes coming to WP 6.2
• Editor Components updates: This post lists notable changes to the @wordpress/components package for the WordPress 6.2 release.
• New prop to ServerSideRender component: WordPress 6.2 introduces a new skipBlockSupportAttributes prop to exclude attributes and styles related to block supports in the ServerSideRender component.
• Custom CSS for global styles and per block: A custom CSS input box has been added to the Global Styles settings in the Site Editor.Ideally, this input should be seen as a last resort fallback to add styling that can not yet be implemented with the other editor design tools.
• Customize settings for any block: WordPress 6.2 introduces a new client-side filter called blockEditor.useSetting.before that allows developers to modify block settings before the editor is rendered.
• Style Book preview of blocks in global styles: The new feature added to the global styles interface allows users to preview every block that can be inserted into their site. 
• Minimum height dimensions block support: The new feature has the Group and Post Content blocks opted-in by default and allows users to set a Group or Post Content block to have a minimum height, similar to the control that exists for the Cover block.
• get_page_by_title() deprecated: The get_page_by_title() function has been deprecated in favour of using WP_Query

• Vulnerability in OceanWP Theme: An authenticated Local File Inclusion (LFI) vulnerability allows any authenticated user with minimum Subscriber user role to perform local file inclusion with limited .php file extension on the WordPress server.
• SQL Injection discovered and fixed in Slimstat Analytics and Paid Memberships Pro: The two SQL Injection vulnerabilities could allow low-privileged users like subscribers to leak sensitive information from a site’s database.

• WP101 joined the AwesomeMotive family: Shawn Hesketh sold the company to join the team at Motivations AI led by Chris Lema.
• UnlimitedWP is the mystery buyer: UnlimitedWP confirmed they are the new owners of WPLift. Ronik Patel, the founder of UnlimitedWP, said that the acquisition empowers the brand to give back to the community.

• Tutor LMS v2.1.8 released: ChatGPT is now fully integrated with Tutor LMS Pro for easy content generation.
• LifterLMS Version 7.1.0 is out: It has a new Dashboard page under the LifterLMS menu in the admin and lessons count column on the Courses post list table.
