State of Enterprise WordPress 2023 Report

This year’s report has been published and saw the participation of over 100 enterprise brands.

• 6.4.3 Maintenance release bug scrub: The initial bug scrubs for WordPress 6.4.3 will take place on December 14 and 19 respectively.
• New requirements for settings pages & onboarding in themes: Community feedback is requested for what should or shouldn’t be allowed when developing settings pages or onboarding processes in WordPress themes.
• Announcing the new WordPress Events Page: The new WordPress Events page showcased during State of the Word is now live.
• Developer Resources gets a refresh: The redesigned Developer Resources is now live.
• Update on Matrix migration: Pausing the transition: The migration from Slack to Matrix is being put on hold and Slack will continue as the primary platform.
• ChatGPT Plus subscriptions have been re-enabled: Sam Altman has confirmed via X that the recently paused ChatGPT Plus subscription is now available to users.
• Adobe abandons $20 billion acquisition of Figma: Adobe and Figma announced on Monday that both companies are mutually terminating their merger agreement, which would have seen Adobe acquire the Figma product design platform for $20 billion.

Multiple vulnerabilities patched in Themify Ultra theme

Recently four vulnerabilities were patched and all users are to update to the latest version immediately.

• Wordfence Intelligence Weekly WordPress Vulnerability Report (December 4, 2023 to December 10, 2023): There were 109 vulnerabilities disclosed in 98 Plugins and 10 themes.
• Over 100 WordPress repository plugins affected by shortcode-based stored cross-site scripting: This type of vulnerability enables threat actors with contributor-level permissions or higher to inject malicious web scripts into pages using plugin shortcodes, which will execute whenever a victim accesses the injected page.

• Freelancer Web Help launching soon: Freelancer Web Help from Andrew Palmer, a soon-to-be-launched new project aimed at helping freelancers.
• Introducing Solid Queue: Solid Queue is a new db-based queuing backend for Active Job.
• Heroicons v2.1 released: It includes a brand new micro style — a full set of almost three hundred 16×16 icons designed for tighter, higher-density UIs.
• Active development ceased for the WP Coupons plugin: As a result of the active development being ceased, all active subscriptions have been canceled as of December 14th.
• WordCamp Asia 2024 announced the first batch of speakers: The first batch of speakers have been announced and they are Adam Silverstein, Hannah Swain Løvik, Hidetaka Okamoto, Jeanne Tan, Luke Carbis, Miriam Schwab, and Paolo Belcastro.
• WordPress for Enterprise on Jan 18, 2024: The online event is hosted by Big Bite and Human Made and the speakers list is now live.
• WebDevStudios is raising money for “One Laptop Per Child”: The fundraiser is now open and is live till Jan 1, 2024.
• Ben Gabler, CEO of Rocket.net not happy with Kinsta: Kinsta took a dig at the CEO for providing support to tickets. Carl Hancock, Founder of Gravity Forms was also unamused with the comparison article.
• WP Product Talk podcast looking for guests: Katie Keith one of the hosts of the podcast has announced via X that the WP Product Talk podcast is looking for guests and interested parties can apply on their website.
• Nyasha Green receives the Yoast Care fund for her contribution to the WordPress community: The latest recipient of the YoastCare fund is Nyasha Green who is an active member of the WordPress community.
• Search Engine Land celebrates its 17th birthday: Congratulations to Search Engine Land and this post provides a quick recap of the 2023 year and what lies ahead for them in 2024.
