WordPress 6.5 “Regina” has brought various performance improvements such as improved performance for translated sites, a faster editing experience, improvements for registering block variations, and so on.

• WordPress.com launches Studio: Studio from WordPress.com is an all-new local development tool that allows users to create a local WordPress website and share it with others effortlessly.
• WordPress 6.6 call for volunteers update: This post is a follow-up to the initial WordPress 6.6 call for volunteers and provides an update on the release squad for WordPress 6.6, the second major release of this year. The Documentation, Core Triage, and Core Tech Leads are yet to be finalized.
• Devs: Give your feedback on Plugin Directory Playground previews: A call for feedback post from the Meta team, as they are seeking responses from plugin developers with regard to the preview feature powered by WordPress Playground so as to enhance it further.
• WordPress Media Corps next steps: Josepha Haden Chomphosy has provided the next steps for the Media Corps project which includes a new Make Media Corps team, blog, and Slack channel, the existing Make Marketing Team and Slack channel will be archived once the new team is created, and more.
• Brainstorm & table lead – WordCamp Europe 2024 Contributor Day: The Training Team is looking for Contributor Day table co-leads for WordCamp Europe 2024. In general, Table leads represent the Training Team through the preparation, execution, and wrap-up of the event.
• What’s new in Gutenberg 18.2: The latest version improves the pattern overrides experience, template preview in the post editor is now enabled for non-administrators, and more.
• The Plugin Directory gets a refresh: The Plugin Directory has been updated with a new theme and according to Nick Diego the update’s primary focus was to standardize the site’s layout, fonts, spacing, and colors with other newly updated sections of WordPress.org.
• Summary of Hallway Hangout on what’s next in Gutenberg: Anne McCarthy has published a detailed summary of the recently concluded Hallway Hangout.
• Fifteen merged PRs for WP-CLI Hack Day 2024: Fifteen PR’s have been merged on the third WP-CLI Hack Day. Also, there are an additional 6 pull requests with substantial progress during the event that aren’t yet merged.
• Design share #54 (Apr 8-Apr 26): The design team has shared an update on a few projects they have worked on over the past couple of weeks.
• Google accused of anti-competitive tactics by Japanese regulator: Google used tactics that hindered Yahoo Japan’s ability to compete in targeted search ads, according to Japan’s Fair Trade Commission.
• Google March 2024 core update rollout is now complete: Google’s March 2024 core update is now done rolling out, it started on March 5, 2024 and completed 45 days later on April 19, 2024.
• Google warns of “new reality” as search engine stumbles: Google warns of “new reality” amid search struggles, accelerates timelines, while critics allege prioritizing revenue over quality.
• Google’s new infini-attention and SEO: Google has published a research paper on a new technology called Infini-attention that allows it to process massively large amounts of data with “infinitely long contexts” while also being capable of being easily inserted into other models to vastly improve their capabilities.
• DeepL Write: New AI editor improves content quality: DeepL, the makers of the DeepL Translator, announced a new product called DeepL Write, an AI real-time editor that is powered by their own Large Language Model (LLM) that improves content at the draft stage, preserving the tone and voice of the writer.

• Arbitrary options update vulnerability patched in WP Datepicker WordPress plugin: This vulnerability could be used by authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to update arbitrary options which can easily be leveraged for privilege escalation was patched recently.
• Wordfence Intelligence Weekly WordPress Vulnerability Report (April 15, 2024 to April 21, 2024): There were 190 vulnerabilities disclosed in 155 plugins and 2 themes.

• Akshaya Rane receives the Yoast Care fund for her contribution to the WordPress community: Akshaya Rane a member of the WordPress Community Team is the latest recipient of the Yoast Care fund.
