- A pared back web fonts API may land in WordPress 6.0 or not at all: There has been some trouble brewing that might spoil its inclusion in the 6.0 release. It was notably missing from the first beta, and there was no final decision on its status as Beta 2 rolled out.
- A look at Twenty Twenty-Two’s upcoming global style variations: The upcoming feature will allow theme designers to bundle multiple design presets. In turn, end-users can cycle through them, selecting their preferred look without changing their active theme.
- Updated COVID-19 guidelines for official WordPress events: In-person events are back! Community organizers all over the world can now organize in-person WordPress events, following local laws and safety measures. Masks are strongly recommended.
- Support underrepresented speakers at WordCamp US: Financial constraints should not affect diverse representation at WordCamp US. Speakers who need financial support can connect with companies that can offer that support. MasterWP has already announced the MasterWP WordCamp US Sponsorship Program
- WPDiversity is Expanding to Asia-Pacific (APAC) region: Members of the #WPDiversity team are starting up a second meeting that will be more accessible to those in the APAC time zones. The meeting will be held in parallel with the AMER/EMEA meetings on Thursday of the 2nd and 4th week of the month.
- WooCommerce plans to bring Full-Site Editing support to single product templates: A blockified single product template will empower store owners who might otherwise have had to hire a developer to make these kinds of changes to templates.

- DuckDuckGo and Brave move to bypass Google AMP pages by default: Brave is calling the new feature “De-AMP.” DuckDuckGo tweeted that its apps and extensions now also support bypassing AMP pages. Large publishers have been moving away from AMP after Google stopped requiring the framework for placement in its Top Stories carousel.
- Google tests big changes to featured snippets: The two new additions to Google’s featured snippets are ‘From the web’ and ‘Other sites say’. Both will give searchers a more diverse set of sources in the coveted featured snippet position.
- Google introduces a “reject all” cookie button in Europe after being fined €150 million: Google says they have rolled out the new cookie banner in France and will be extending the change to all Google users in Europe, the U.K., and Switzerland soon.
- Google is banning third-party call recording apps from the Play Store: Developers can’t use the Accessibility API for call recording starting May 11th.
- Is Google Search worse?: The SEO community on Twitter picked up the discussion on Reddit and largely agreed.
- Brave Search launches discussions to provide better search answers: Open-source browser Brave announces a new feature called Discussions intended to eliminate the shortcomings of traditional search engines by surfacing more results from web forums.
- Instagram changes ranking Algorithm to favor original content: Instagram’s home feed ranking algorithm is receiving an update that’s designed to boost the visibility of original content. It is also making changes to hashtag pages to find ways to make them more valuable to users.
- TikTok introduces interactive add-ons for ads: These interactive elements, which include popups, gestures and stickers, are intended to help brands attract and engage viewers.

- Drupal warns of two critical vulnerabilities: Drupal announced two vulnerabilities affecting versions 9.2 and 9.3 that could allow an attacker to upload malicious files and take control of a site.
- Google releases annual search spam report: The annual report revealed SpamBrain, and Google claims a 70% reduction in hacked spam and a 75% reduction in gibberish spam on hosted platforms.
- Universal Analytics real time latency issues won’t be fully fixed, says Google: Google has responded to the complaints around Google Analytics’s real time reporting saying that the engineering team has “not been able to fully eliminate the issue” and added that the company is “no longer seeking to resolve this issue.” So the remedy is either wait it out or switch to GA4.
- Amazon Web Services fixes container escape in Log4Shell hotfix: AWS has fixed four security issues in its hot patch from December that addressed the critical Log4Shell vulnerability affecting cloud or on-premise environments running Java applications with a vulnerable version of the Log4j logging library or containers.
- Canonical releases important Ubuntu Kernel update to fix eight vulnerabilities: The new kernel update is to address CVE-2021-43976, a security vulnerability that could allow a physically proximate attacker to cause a denial of service (system crash).
- ALAC bug left millions of Android devices vulnerable to takeover: A bug in the Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) impacts two-thirds of Android devices sold in 2021, leaving unpatched devices vulnerable to takeover.
