- Google tests big changes to featured snippets: The two new additions to Google’s featured snippets are ‘From the web’ and ‘Other sites say’. Both will give searchers a more diverse set of sources in the coveted featured snippet position.
- Google introduces a โreject allโ cookie button in Europe after being fined โฌ150 million: Google says they have rolled out the new cookie banner in France and will be extending the change to all Google users in Europe, the U.K., and Switzerland soon.
- Google is banning third-party call recording apps from the Play Store: Developers can’t use the Accessibility API for call recording starting May 11th.
- Is Google Search worse?: The SEO community on Twitter picked up the discussion on Reddit and largely agreed.
- Brave Search launches discussions to provide better search answers: Open-source browser Brave announces a new feature called Discussions intended to eliminate the shortcomings of traditional search engines by surfacing more results from web forums.

- Drupal warns of two critical vulnerabilities: Drupal announced two vulnerabilities affecting versions 9.2 and 9.3 that could allow an attacker to upload malicious files and take control of a site.
- Google releases annual search spam report: The annual report revealed SpamBrain, and Google claims a 70% reduction in hacked spam and a 75% reduction in gibberish spam on hosted platforms.
- Universal Analytics real time latency issues wonโt be fully fixed, says Google: Google has responded to the complaints around Google Analyticsโs real time reporting saying that the engineering team has โnot been able to fully eliminate the issueโ and added that the company is โno longer seeking to resolve this issue.โ So the remedy is either wait it out or switch to GA4.
- Amazon Web Services fixes container escape in Log4Shell hotfix: AWS has fixed four security issues in its hot patch from December that addressed the critical Log4Shell vulnerability affecting cloud or on-premise environments running Java applications with a vulnerable version of the Log4j logging library or containers.
- Canonical releases important Ubuntu Kernel update to fix eight vulnerabilities: The new kernel update is to address CVE-2021-43976, a security vulnerability that could allow a physically proximate attacker to cause a denial of service (system crash).
- ALAC bug left millions of Android devices vulnerable to takeover: A bug in the Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) impacts two-thirds of Android devices sold in 2021, leaving unpatched devices vulnerable to takeover.
