SponsorMeWP Debuts as a New Way to Back WordPress Contributors

  • News

Michelle Frechette and Marcus Burnette have launched SponsorMeWP, a free platform aimed at connecting contributors with companies looking to support open-source work. The website features a list of contributors who can be sponsored for their contribution efforts across various areas, including Core, Documentation, and more.

Bridging WordPress Contributors with Sponsorship Opportunities

SponsorMeWP simplifies the process for companies to discover contributors, initiate direct conversations for potential collaboration, and provide financial backing. Companies can narrow down contributors based on skills, availability, and location, and reach out through secure, built-in contact forms.

Contributors can sign up, create a profile, highlight the Make WordPress teams they’re interested in contributing to, and specify how many hours per month they’re seeking sponsorship for.

The initiative focuses solely on connecting contributors with companies eager to sponsor their work while keeping the financial side between contributors and sponsors, and also being free of platform fees.

The Community Response

Pooja Derashri expressed her support for the initiative, “ This is such a fantastic initiative Huge thanks to @michelleames & @marcusdburnette for making it easier for contributors like me to connect with sponsors.”

Daniel Knauss on LinkedIn voiced, “ This is really, really great. I’ve been wanting something better than the GitHub list. 🙂 I already sponsor a number of folks through GitHub, but this looks like it will open the field to others who do not necessarily contribute in code or various WP repos….”
