- WordPress Performance team working towards unbundling Performance Lab Plugin: WordPress’ Performance Team met last week with the express purpose of responding to Matt Mullenweg’s recent request to stop adding functionality to the Performance Lab plugin which could otherwise work as a standalone plugin.
- Automattic launches Blaze ad network for Jetpack and WordPress.com sites: WordPress.com users can now to go to wordpress.com/advertising, select a site, and promote content with Blaze. Jetpack users have access to the ad network inside the WordPress.com dashboard.
- Update on the work to make building interactive blocks easier: Over the last ten months, a group of contributors has been working on making it easier to build interactive blocks. A proposal to create a new standard that simplifies building rich interactive web applications with WordPress using declarative and reactive programming principles will be shared soon.

- Advertisers react to Google’s ‘remove redundant keywords’ update: Google is updating one of its existing auto-applied recommendations policies, and advertisers aren’t happy. Starting January 19, Google will begin removing redundant keywords across different match types.
- Apple Maps relaunches Apple Business Connect: Apple has revamped the Apple Business Connect service. This service initially launched Apple Maps Connect in 2014, and it is similar to how Google Business Profiles works.
- TikTok slapped with $5.4 million fine over cookie opt-out feature: France’s data protection authority (CNIL) has fined TikTok UK and TikTok Ireland €5,000,000 for making it difficult for users of the platform to refuse cookies and for not sufficiently informing them about their purpose.
