WordPress 6.4 beta 2 has been released and beta 3 will arrive later today. The Font Library feature will not arrive with WordPress 6.4, but only with WordPress 6.5. Last week saw a live preview functionality in the plugin repository, but only for a short time. Also, the Ollie theme is now available in the themes repository without the onboarding wizard.

WordPress 6.4 Beta 2 released

The beta 2 is now available for download and testing. Beta 3 is set to be released later today.

• WordPress 6.4 Font Library feature punted to 6.5 release: The Font Library feature that was to be shipped out with WordPress 6.4 has been moved to WordPress 6.5. The decision was made after the team found issues with the Font APIs. 
• WordPress 6.3.2 RC1 is now available: WordPress 6.3.2 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) is now available for testing. The final release is expected on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
• Preserving Harvard’s blogging history: Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society (BKC) recently migrated its early 2000s blogging platform to the Pressable infrastructure by working closely with Automattic.
• Why NASA chose WordPress for revamping its flagship website: This post highlights the several factors that led to NASA choosing WordPress for its website.
• Core editor improvement: Ensuring excellence in the writing experience: The post covers some of the enhancements that will arrive with WordPress 6.4 in relation to the writing experience.

• WordPress.org plugin repository introduced a Live Preview option momentarily: Cristian Raiber on X brought everyone’s attention to the new Live Preview button in the plugins repository. The live preview did have some issues as noted by Maarten Belmans. However, the live preview was removed after some time and more on this can be tracked on this ticket.

Wordfence Intelligence Weekly WordPress Vulnerability Report (September 25, 2023 to October 1, 2023)

There were 90 vulnerabilities disclosed in 68 WordPress Plugins.

• Know your Malware – A beginner’s guide to encoding techniques used to obfuscate Malware: Wordfence covers some of the most common encoding techniques in PHP, their legitimate applications, and how malicious code uses them to obfuscate its purpose and intent.
• Google confirms resolution of indexing bug: The issue affects the search index which results in the delay of indexing of new content. Google also unleashed the October 2023 spam update that improves its “coverage in many languages and spam types.”

Eric Karkovack has announced via X his new content service for WordPress product marketers, WP Product Writeup. The service is focused on providing white-label content for WordPress themes, plugins, or SaaS.

• Web to Zip: A project created by Patrick Posner that allows users to download a static copy of their entire website as a ZIP file with a single click of a button.
• New Gravatar hovercards: A new open-sourced Gravatar Hovercards library is live for users of WordPress.com and Jetpack, and is available to be implemented by anyone around the web.
• Cloudflare Fonts: enhancing website font privacy and speed: With this, sites that use Google Fonts will be able to effortlessly load their fonts from the site’s own domain rather than from Google.
• WordPress theme.json CSS autosuggest: A VS Code extension that adds CSS autocomplete for design tokens added to your WordPress theme’s theme.json.
• NASA is using RankMath: The all-new NASA website is using the RankMath plugin for its SEO goals.
• The Ollie block theme is now available on WordPress.org!: The Ollie theme is now available in the themes repository without its onboarding feature. This feature had to be removed after the theme review at WordPress.org.
• WPBakery 7.1 released with Copy/Paste feature: The new feature allows users to copy and paste elements within the same page, across different pages within the same site, and even between pages of different sites.
• Jessica Lyschik receives the Yoast Care fund for her contributions to WordPress: Jessica Lyschik who is a part of the WordPress Core team has bagged the Yoast Care fund.
• FluentCRM turned 3: FluentCRM recounts their journey so far and also talks about their goal for the future.
• Namecheap turned 23: For their 23-year anniversary Namecheap is offering up to 42% off on .com and .org registrations and more.
• Mark Wilkinson on why the use of block themes is extremely slow: A discussion on X started by Mark Wilkinson seeks to find out the reasons why update in the use of block themes is extremely slow. A lot of members from the community have shared their views on what could be the possible reasons for it.
