Guildenberg, the WordPress-focused initiative dedicated to helping product companies grow healthier businesses, will officially close its doors on January 31, 2026. The closure marks the end of nearly four years of operations and a significant chapter in the WordPress ecosystem.
Origins and Vision
The company was publicly introduced in 2023 by Matt Fields, Anna Maria Radu, and Jonathan Wold, following early discussions and validation at WordCamp Europe 2022. Its mission was to support WordPress product companies by improving monetization, adoption, and compatibility. The name Guildenberg combined “Gutenberg” with the guild institutions of medieval Europe, symbolizing collaboration and shared growth.
In 2023, Jonathan Wold had described the long-term vision as “laying a foundation for an “app store” that spans the majority of the WordPress ecosystem and solves the three problems (monetization, compatibility, and distribution) in a holistic way.”
New Co-founders & Convesio
Guildenberg gained momentum after Tammie Lister and Luke Carbis joined as co-founders in 2025. By the fourth quarter of that year, service revenue had grown to a point where the team began investing in product development, with plans to shift focus in 2026.
Meanwhile, Convesio, one of Guildenberg’s longest-running and most active members, experienced rapid growth in 2025 as it transitioned from a hosting provider to an ecommerce-focused product company.
The goodbye note on the website shares that discussions began last November about Lister and Wold joining Convesio to support its expansion directly.
New Roles Announced
It is now official that Tammie Lister will join Convesio as Chief Product Officer, while Jonathan Wold will take on the role of Chief Business Development Officer. Luke Carbis will continue his work as a full-time contributor to WordPress.
Both Lister and Wold confirmed the transition on social media. Lister tweeted, “Life has ups and downs. This past few years were amazing and the journey with Guildenberg has closed. From 2026 onwards I will be joining Convesio as Chief Product Officer, I couldn’t be more excited and will share more. For now, goodbye Guildenberg.” Wold added, “My adventure with @karmatosed and @lukecarbis at @guildenberg is coming to a close on January 31.”
While Guildenberg’s website published a farewell note, it did not specify what would happen to its clients beyond the Convesio partnership.
