After being announced on November 10, 2022, Divi 5 has finally been released, nearly four years after its first announcement.
The team has described Divi 5.0 as a foundation update and is a complete rewrite of the Divi Builder, as stated, “ Divi 5.0 is what we are calling the “Foundation Update.” It’s a complete rewrite of Divi’s core technologies, re-imagined for the future and built using all of the knowledge and experience our team has acquired over the last nine years building Divi.”
Moving Beyond Shortcodes
One of the major changes is the move away from shortcodes in favor of a modern storage system. Elegant Themes explained that this shift will allow for faster processing, fewer bugs, and more flexible layouts.
New API
Divi 5.0 will also introduce a new Builder API aimed at expanding what developers can create. With the new API, the Divi Builder becomes fully customizable, allowing developers to create not only custom modules but also new setting types and entirely original features, “Developers will be able to use the Divi API to create anything they want. Not only will developers be able to create new and amazing modules, but they will also be able to create new types of settings and completely new features of their own”.
Exclusive Features
Divi 5 release will also introduce several exclusive features such as Option Group Presets, Nested Rows, Module Groups, Customizable Breakpoints, Advanced Units, Design Variables, Attribute Manager, and Settings Search and Filtering.

To ensure a smooth rollout, Divi 4 will remain supported for a minimum of six months after Divi 5 officially launches, as stated, “ To make the transition as stress-free as possible, we will continue to support Divi 4 for at least an additional six months after the official release of Divi 5. You will have the option to opt in to Divi 5 or stay on the Divi 4 update path and continue to receive critical security and compatibility updates.”
After six months, Divi 4 sites will begin receiving the Divi 5 upgrade notification, “ After the grace period, the update paths of all Divi websites will converge, and Divi 4 websites will receive the Divi 5 update notification.”
