Elementor Lays Off 30% of Workforce Amid AI-driven Restructuring

  • News

Elementor has laid off around 100 employees, approximately 30% of its workforce, as the website-building platform restructures to focus on its core product and community while adapting to AI-driven changes in website creation.

Restructuring driven by AI-led changes

The layoffs were first reported on Monday by Israeli news outlets The Jerusalem Post and Calcalist. The restructuring is in response to what Elementor sees as a rapid shift in website creation driven by AI.

Commenting on the decision, CEO and co-founder Yoni Luksenberg said the company had expanded into new areas in recent years but underestimated the pace of technological change, “Over the past decade, we have proudly led the creator revolution on the internet. In recent years, we dared to explore new growth directions, but we underestimated the speed of technological disruption and its impact on the traditional model”.

He said Elementor chose to restructure from a position of financial strength rather than necessity, “Elementor is a healthy, profitable, and independent company, and from that position we chose to do a reset: a lean, flat, and agile organization focused on our core product and community.”

Luksenberg acknowledged the impact of the decision on employees, adding, “This is a very painful step, and I am grateful to everyone who has built Elementor with us so far. This change is essential to ensure that Elementor remains independent and strong, and continues to lead the next chapter of the web.”

This is not the first time layoffs have happened at Elementor, as back in June 2022, the company had laid off around 50-60 employees, most of them from its marketing department, citing rising inflation, recession concerns, and the need to improve operational efficiency.

The layoffs come despite Elementor maintaining a dominant position in the WordPress ecosystem. According to the recent analysis by Casey Burridge of GravityKit using HTTP Archive data, Elementor was detected on 32.67% of WordPress sites, making it the most widely used third-party page builder.

The restructuring follows a year of platform expansion

The restructuring follows a period of rapid product expansion for Elementor. Over the past year, the company launched the Elementor One unified subscription, introduced its AI-powered app builder Sticklight and the agentic AI assistant Angie, while continuing development of Editor V4, its next-generation website builder.
