- Gutenberg 14.8 has been released: The Site Editor interface gets a significant overhaul and introduces Browse Mode. Version 14.8 also introduces Style Block, which is now nestled into the Global Styles panel.
- WordPress.com launched newsletter product: WordPress.com Newsletter is a new streamlined product for scheduling and publishing newsletters using WordPress. It is just in time to capture those escaping Gumroad’s price increase and editors displaced by Revue shutting down.
- Block Protocol announces new WordPress plugin coming in 2023: It will allow users to embed interactive blocks compatible with Gutenberg. The Block Protocol plugin will give users access to the global registry of interoperable blocks.
- Commercial and Community categorization is live on WordPress.org theme and plugin directories: The new designations were created to demystify the selection process and empower users to find plugins and themes that suit their needs. Plugin and theme authors were invited to opt into the categorization.
- Help test the SQLite implementation: Ari Stathopoulos requested hosts, plugin authors, and theme developers to test the implementation – with the hope of merging an SQLite implementation in WordPress Core in a future release.
- New WordPress Incident Response Team: The purpose of this team is to help everyone understand where they can go if they see behavior or actions that don’t match the code of conduct. If you see something that doesn’t align with the project wide or events code of conduct, please contact any IRT members.
- Tonya Mork and Abha Thakor are the new Core Team Reps for 2023: Both of them will officially be the new Core Team Representatives starting January 1st, 2023. Congrats Tonya and Abha!
- Community Team Reps for 2023: Junko Nukaga, Leo Gopal and Cate DeRosia are the new team reps. Congrats Junko, Leo & Cate!
- Google CALM: A new language model technology: CALM speeds up large language models (like GPT-3 and LaMDA) without compromising performance levels. What this new framework does is devote fewer resources to trivial portions of a text generation task and devote the total power to more difficult parts.
- Twitter adds public view counts to tweets: Twitter’s tweet view count, otherwise known as impressions, was previously only available to the account that published the tweet. Twitter is also launching a version of Blue Verified specifically for businesses, aptly titled Blue For Business.
- Mastodon reaches 2.5 million users, founder holds Reddit AMA: Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter, Mastodon, a decentralized and open-source social media platform, has grown its user base from 300K to 2.5M monthly active users.
- Microsoft to go fully live with new Bingbot user-agent change in January 2023: Microsoft’s Fabrice Canel has said that in early January 2023, the new BingBot will be responsible for 100% of Bing’s crawling activity. The new user agent is now responsible for about 50% of all crawls.
- France fines Microsoft €60 Million for using advertising cookies without user consent: France’s privacy watchdog has imposed the fine against Microsoft’s Ireland subsidiary for dropping advertising cookies in users’ computers without their explicit consent in violation of data protection laws in the European Union.

- YITH WooCommerce Gift Cards Premium Plugin exploited in the wild: The vulnerability impacts plugin versions up to and including 3.19.0 and allows unauthenticated attackers to upload executable files to WordPress sites running a vulnerable version of the plugin.

- Authentication bypass and enumeration vulnerabilities in Ghost CMS: An authentication bypass vulnerability can lead to increased privileges while the enumeration vulnerability in the login functionality of Ghost can lead to a disclosure of sensitive information.
