It was quite an eventful week – several acquisitions and WCEU. ACF plugin changed hands again along with 4 other plugins of Delicious Brains. And the WP folks had a smashing time at WCEU. The WordCamp Europe 2022 contributors day gathered more than 800 contributors in Porto. This was the largest Contributor Day ever held!

- Instagram releases new Reels features: Instagram adds new functionality to its short-form video format Reels, providing creators with new ways to engage with audiences. Another feature allows users to determine how much sensitive content they want to see across Instagram.
- Twitter removing TweetDeck for mac in July: Twitter is dropping support for the Mac version of TweetDeck on July 1, at which time it will only be accessible through a web browser.
- Twitter to roll out notifications for search terms: A new feature rolling out to Twitter will let users opt-in to notifications about tweets containing specific search terms.

- Hackers can now take over your computer through Microsoft Word: A new zero-day vulnerability in Microsoft Office could potentially allow hackers to take control of your computer. Consider switching to cloud-based alternatives like Google Docs. Only accept and download files from 100%-proven sources .
- GitLab issues security patch for Critical Account Takeover vulnerability: GitLab has moved to address a critical security flaw in its service that, if successfully exploited, could result in an account takeover.
- Telegram’s blogging platform abused in phishing attacks: Telegram’s anonymous blogging platform, Telegraph, is being actively exploited by phishing actors who take advantage of the platform’s lax policies to set up interim landing pages that lead to the theft of account credentials.
- YODA tool found ~47,000 malicious WordPress plugins installed on over 24,000 sites: As many as 47,337 malicious plugins have been uncovered on 24,931 unique websites, out of which 3,685 plugins were sold on legitimate marketplaces, netting the attackers $41,500 in illegal revenues.
- FluBot Android spyware taken down in Global Law Enforcement Operation: “This Android malware has been spreading aggressively through SMS, stealing passwords, online banking details and other sensitive information from infected smartphones across the world,” Europol said in a statement.

- WP Engine has acquired 5 Delicious Brains WordPress plugins including ACF : The plugins acquired are Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), WP Migrate, WP Offload Media, WP Offload SES, and Better Search Replace. Delicious Brains will continue with its SpinupWP product. “The ACF acquisition scares me” writes MasterWP.
- InstaWP gets seed funding from Automattic: Founder Vikas Singhal said the investment gives Automattic a percentage of future equity under a SAFE (simple agreement for future equity) arrangement. Also check out his interview with Daniel Schutzsmith
- NP Digital acquires keyword research tool AnswerThePublic: AnswerThePublic will be integrated with UberSuggest to give users visualizations of Google searches and content ideas. NP Digital, which was co-founded by marketing influencer and entrepreneur Neil Patel, is also the owner of UberSuggest.
- SEOClarity acquires RankSense technology: The enterprise platform will integrate the technology, which was created by the late Hamlet Batista, into its platform. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
- Ahrefs invests $60M in building creator-friendly search engine, ‘Yep’: Yep is taking a fresh new path through the world of internet advertising, claiming that it’s giving 90% of its ad revenues to content creators.
