- Google announces 4 new features for Discovery ad users: The new features are: better ad experiences, improved creative support, new insights and enhanced campaign management.
- Google’s video chat merger begins: Duo is being rebranded to Google Meet and the existing Google Meet app is sticking around for a bit. That means there are now two apps called “Google Meet.”
- Google updates Business Profile posts spam policies: The posts that do not comply with this guideline may be rejected and removed from Google Maps and Google Search.
- Google launches new image preview interface in web search: Instead of Google taking you to the Google Image tab, you now remain within the main search results.
- DuckDuckGo now says it will block Microsoft trackers: Earlier this year, a security researcher discovered DuckDuckGo’s mobile browser transferring data to Microsoft-owned properties when visiting certain websites.
- LinkedIn tests new human curated discover feed: LinkedIn is testing a new Discover feed, which surfaces relevant content from professionals outside your network.
- YouTube updates for creators: New metrics, copyrighted music and more: YouTube adds several new features for creators, including more information about where they’re gaining subscribers.
- Facebook to end live shopping on October 1: The social media giant will no longer allow retailers to host new or scheduled live shopping events. Live shopping on Instagram will be unaffected.
- Twitter continues testing the edit button, allowing multimedia tweets: Twitter announced last week they were testing a new feature that would allow images, videos and GIFs in one tweet.
- Twitter launches Location Spotlight for all professional accounts: The new features lets local businesses display their address, hours and more information at the top of their Twitter profile.
🚨Web security & Vulnerabilities
- Vulnerability found in WordPress Gutenberg Plugin?: National Vulnerability Database published a notification of a vulnerability discovered in the official WordPress Gutenberg plugin. But according to the person who found it, WordPress is said to have not acknowledged it as a vulnerability.
- High severity vulnerability patched in Download Manager plugin: This flaw makes it possible for an authenticated attacker to delete arbitrary files hosted on the server, provided they have access to create downloads.
- Cross-site request forgery vulnerability patched in Ecwid Ecommerce Shopping Cart plugin: This vulnerability made it possible for attackers to modify some of the plugin’s more advanced settings via a forged request.
- Twitter fixes security bug that exposed at least 5.4 million accounts: The vulnerability allowed anyone to enter a phone number or an email address of a known user and learn if it was tied to an existing Twitter account.
- Google paid out $90,000 for vulnerabilities patched by Chrome 104: The highest bug bounty, $15,000, was earned by an anonymous researcher who discovered a use-after-free vulnerability in the Omnibox component.

- Add Customizer plugin: This plugin from Kris Cochran adds the customize option back to the appearance menu.
- Replace Google Fonts with Bunny Fonts plugin: This plugin by Antonio Leutsch replaces Google Fonts with Bunny Fonts in the HTML Markup of your WordPress site.
- WPC Product Options for WooCommerce plugin: By WPClever, this plugin helps manage WooCommerce product options (addons).
- Email Template Customizer for WooCommerce plugin: This plugin by iThemelandco is useful for creating and customizing WooCommerce email templates.
- Mailtree Log Mail plugin: This plugin by oacsTudio logs all emails that use the wp_mail() function (should be almost all).

- WooCommerce Blocks 8.2.1 released: This is a patch release to fix the issue that made users unable to select the saved cards token radio buttons after selecting another payment method in the Checkout block when trying to pay with their saved cards.
- Jetpack 11.2 released: It has interface improvements for the Slideshow Block, backend improvements for a smoother connection between website and Jetpack and several bug fixes for Form Block and form submissions.
- Post Status announced Post Status Index: It is a business directory that highlight the great businesses and people working in WordPress. Expected to be released around WordCamp US in September.
- Request for Comments: It is regarding removing JS/CSS source files from releases to reduce the size of the plugin archive. Leave any feedback you may have before it closes on August 26th, 2022.
- Wordfence Intelligence launching at Black Hat 2022 in Las Vegas: Wordfence Intelligence is a new product that is available for enterprise customers and hosting providers.
- 20i launches WordPress Manager for their customers: 20i’s Managing Director Lloyd Cobb said “WordPress manager is a huge time saver for anyone who runs multiple WordPress-powered websites, especially when it comes to theme, plugin and user management.” It is a plugin-free solution and free for the customers.
- Yoast has two new technical SEO courses on hosting and crawlability: These courses are available to Yoast SEO Premium members, and guide you through theory and practice with videos, suggested reading, quizzes and assignments.
- OrganizeWP plugin to become paid soon: It collects your content types (e.g. Pages, Posts, Custom Post Types) into a single Admin Menu entry and makes editing content fast. The open/free beta period will be expiring soon.
- Results of WP Builders Fight Club challenge are out: It was Sridhar Katakam’s suggestion that it would be interesting to have community members build a page with the same design using their favorite builder.
- GreenShift – a Gutenberg Page builder: It has over 50 complete blocks to build super-fast websites with design options, ready-made website templates, animations, style presets and more.
- New Slack updates to make your digital HQ more accessible and equitable: The enhancements including improved keyboard navigation, new functionality for the F6 and Tab keys and design enhancements, will begin rolling out to all Slack users on August 10.
- GoDaddy reports Q2 2022 financial results: Revenue is up 9% year-over-year, and Net Income up 93% year-over-year.
- WordCamp Asia has new Sponsor criteria: Due to the overwhelming support for call for sponsors, there were too many sponsors for too few sponsorship spots. Sponsorship applications close on 31 August 2022. Also the first batch of standard tickets sold out quickly.
