- This is not a good use of time…we have better places to spend our development time: Matt Mullenweg: He commented on the post about developing the redesigned Home and Download Pages by Alex Shiels, an Automattic-sponsored core contributor. “33 days since project kickoff doesn’t feel quick to me”, Matt said kicking off a storm.
- The owner of WordPress complaining (to his volunteers) that a block theme takes too long: Brian Coords from MasterWP criticized Matt’s comments in his tweet.
- Ben of LayerWP tweeted “More drama in WordPress land. F*ck me it’s like an episode of Eastenders.”
- Daniel Schutzsmith of #WPtalks was more concerned about the manner in which an employee-cum-volunteer was treated publicly. Matt replied that “Regardless of whether someone is a volunteer or sponsored, open source developers need to be able to debate and discuss our work in public, as we have since the dawn of wp-hackers, so that we arrive at the best outcome for users.” Daniel suggested “to learn to Lead With Empathy and Emotional Intelligence.”
- Chris Teitzel of Cellar Door Media and Lockr also thinks “the comments demeaning, they counter the very vision and direction the project is heading” besides being “publicly shamed for your work by the project lead.”

- Twenty Twenty-Three default theme — Project kickoff: The new default theme for WordPress has begun development. There is now a repository for a stripped-back and minimal version of Twenty Twenty-Two, which can serve as the base theme.
- WordPress launches new Homepage and Download Page designs: Amidst the furore caused by Matt’s comments, WordPress.org is now sporting a new look with a refreshed, jazzy design that complements the recently updated News pages.

- IndexNow attributed for 7% of all new URLs clicked on in Bing in the past month: Also Czech search engine Seznam.cz has adopted IndexNow.
- LinkedIn lets you add clickable links to photo posts: This gives you another way to drive traffic to your website from your business’s LinkedIn page or your personal profile.
- Wix integrates Google URL Inspection API: Wix is integrating Google’s URL Inspection API directly into the new Wix Site Inspection Tool, providing users with an easy way to achieve and maintain a good search presence.
- Facebook’s popularity plummets as YouTube takes top spot with teens: Fewer US teens are using Facebook, according to a new study that finds preferences are shifting toward YouTube and TikTok. Facebook is also testing default end-to-end encryption and encrypted backups in Messenger
- New privacy features on WhatsApp: WhatsApp announced three new privacy features: leaving groups silently, deciding who gets to see if you’re online, and screenshot blocking.

- OrganizeWP relaunched with “Old School Software Pricing Model”: The new product is now out of beta and for $29.00, users get access to updates and support for Version 2. OrganizeWP is selling licenses for the current major version with no subscription.
- New Divi Theme Builder Library with Divi Cloud Storage: The Divi Theme Builder Library is a new place where you can save your Theme Builder templates and template sets and is integrated with Divi Cloud, which means you can easily access your Theme Builder templates on every new website you build.
- WooCommerce will not register Customizer options for Block themes: Starting at version 6.9, WooCommerce will no longer register Customizer options when a block theme is active.The problem is that site owners can get confused by having both the “Edit site” and “Customize” menu links in the admin.
- ServerPress is shutting down: ServerPress, makers of DesktopServer, a WordPress local development tool, announced it is shutting down after 12 years in business. Founder Steve Carnam said he may have more news in the near future.
- WooCommerce bids goodbye to Yoda conditions: Deviating from the WordPress conventions, the WooCommerce team has decided that Yoda conditions are no longer a requirement or are even forbidden — depending on the part of the code — for the WooCommerce codebase.
- Newsletter Glue closes free plugin on WordPress.org: Five months ago the plugin’s authors warned users that they would be closing the free version and would no longer be updating it as of May 1, but the process of removing it was delayed until yesterday.
- Mailchimp’s Co-founder and CEO Ben Chestnut moving into a founder-advisor role: He is stepping down as CEO after 21 years. Rania Succar, who leads the QuickBooks Money team, will be Mailchimp’s new CEO.
