- WordPress 6.1 Beta 1 released and ready for testing: The Beta version, though delayed is now available for testing. The easiest way to report bugs is to post in the Alpha/Beta area in the support forums. More experienced testers should search through known bugs and open a ticket on WordPress Trac.
- Roadmap to 6.1: Core companion: This post is meant to supplement the broader 6.1 roadmap and focuses on features that are now planned in addition to the ones previously worked on that now have clarity and momentum.
- WebP by default pulled from upcoming WordPress 6.1 release: The feature was reverted in response to Matt Mullenweg’s recent post about removing it from core in favor of development as a canonical plugin.
- Twenty Twenty-Two is the first default Block Theme to get tagged as accessibility-ready: The WordPress Themes Directory currently has just 94 themes tagged as “accessibility-ready” and only two of them also have support for full-site editing. Twenty Twenty-Two will be joining them on November 1, 2022.
- Google Surveys is shutting down: Google announced it’s shutting down market research product Google Surveys on November 1, and users will have another month to download historical data.
- Google App lets you remove personal information from search: Google is rolling out an update to its mobile app that allows people to request the removal of personal information from search results. You can access the form from your user profile menu or the search results pages.
- Google launched additional support and troubleshooting for Consent Mode: Advertisers can access their Consent Mode status on the conversion summary page in their Ads account. A new certified partner program is also available.
- YouTube is monetizing Shorts with 45% revenue split: YouTube announces Shorts will soon be eligible for monetization, and creators will keep 45% of the revenue generated from viewership.
- Facebook introduces Collaborative Ads for local delivery: The ads allow local businesses and packaged goods brands to display their products next to options for people to purchase.
- TikTok will start banning political campaign fundraising: TikTok will soon start requiring accounts that belong to U.S. government departments, politicians, and political parties to be verified. They’ll also ban any videos and content that call for fundraising. Also TikTok video descriptions now have a 2,200 character limit
🚨Web Security & Vulnerabilities
- Yoast SEO 19.7 causes fatal error & crashes websites: Yoast SEO 19.7 was discovered to contain a conflict with other plugins which resulted in websites experiencing fatal errors. This marks the third time this year that a conflict with another plugin caused a Yoast update to fail.
- WPML 4.5.11 – Security patch update: It includes an important security patch and a fix for an issue related to sites using WPML Media Translation.
- Critical Magento vulnerability targeted in new surge of attacks: A critical Magento 2 vulnerability allowing unauthenticated attackers to execute code on unpatched sites.
- Mozilla patches several high risk vulnerabilities: n Firefox 105 a total of seven vulnerabilities were patched, three of which received the security risk rating “high”.
- Hackers stealing GitHub accounts using fake CircleCI notifications: GitHub is warning of an ongoing phishing campaign that started on September 16 and is targeting its users with emails that impersonate the CircleCI continuous integration and delivery platform.

💵Investments, Acquisitions & Partnerships
- PublishPress acquires MetaSlider Plugin and MetaSlider Lightbox: PublishPress acquired MetaSlider and MetaSlider Lightbox from Extendify. PublishPress founder Burge could not share any financial details of the acquisition but said the sale price was based strictly on revenue.
- Wix integrates with Semrush: Wix announced it’s partnering with Semrush to provide users with access to additional SEO tools and keyword data.
- Atarim & Rocket.net collaboration: It is the first all in one solution for hosting and visual collaboration and is free.

- New prototype runs WordPress in the browser with no PHP server: Automattic-sponsored core contributor Adam Zielinski published a demo today of WordPress running in the browser with no PHP server. This is accomplished using WebAssembly (WASM) and Emscripten.
- ACF 6.0 introduces refreshed Admin UI and ACF Blocks Version 2: ACF users were encouraged to see that the plugin is still moving forward after having changed hands twice in the past two years.
- WP Migrate 2.4 released: With new capabilities for migrating must-use plugins and other files in the
wp-content
directory, it’s now possible to migrate an entire site from WP Admin, including all the files that are essential to the functionality of a modern WordPress site. - Kadence Theme Pro updated: It has two new features – Native duplication capability & Enable/disable element capability.
- SEOPress for MainWP add-on: The new free extension can manage the SEO of all your websites from a centralized dashboard with MainWP.
- Slack’s new Canvas feature puts a document editor in your chat window: The new feature, called Canvas, will let users create and edit full docs from within the Slack interface. It’s one of Slack’s biggest announcements in a while.
