WP Engine has acquired Big Bite, a leading enterprise agency. The move brings Big Bite’s expertise in improving editorial workflow in newsroom platforms and advanced editorial tools into WP Engine’s ecosystem.
Big Bite’s History and Next Steps
Big Bite, founded in 2011 at Teesside University, has spent 15 years building marketing sites for startups before evolving into a trusted partner for major media brands. Their portfolio includes The Times, The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Metro, and Macworld, as well as projects with organizations like Amnesty International. The agency has also contributed to initiatives such as Internet.org and the adoption of WordPress’s Gutenberg editor for global banks. Big Bite is also known for coordinating the State of Enterprise WordPress, the development of plugins like MediaPress, and has also been a long-time WP Engine agency partner.
Big Bite’s founders described the acquisition as the next step,“Now we take the next step on our journey as Big Bite joins WP Engine” and assured clients that current projects would continue uninterrupted.
They noted that as they transition into WP Engine, the team will gradually shift focus from client services to product development, “ As we transition into WP Engine, we’ll gradually shift from client services to product development. We won’t be taking on new projects, but we’ll be putting our experience to work on tools and solutions that can benefit teams and organisations on a much larger scale.”
As part of the acquisition, Big Bite’s agency operations will be closed, and its team will join WP Engine’s Engineering organization to help develop solutions that improve publishing workflows for customers.
