- WordPress 6.0 Beta 4 is now available: Beta 4 was not part of the originally published development cycle. It is aimed at providing an opportunity for testing some specific issues that were resolved since Beta 3.
- Gutenberg 13.1 is out: Gutenberg 13.1 brings border support to the Columns block, a number of improvements to the Comments blocks, along with a range of accessibility enhancements.
- Users’ editor preferences will be stored in the database in Gutenberg 13.2: Gutenberg 13.2 is set to introduce a new preferences persistence API and a new package that saves these preferences to the WordPress database, as part of the user’s meta.
- Caching improvements in WordPress 6.0: There are a few new additions to the WordPress Caching API like batch API methods for Cache Operations.
- New filter to modify content images in WordPress 6.0: WordPress 6.0 introduces a new filter wp_content_img_tag to allow adjustment of images in a blob of HTML content, most prominently post content via the_content filter.
- Taxonomy performance improvements in WordPress 6.0: Improvement to term query caching (including removing cache limit and improved term query cache key generation) and navigation menu items are expected.
- New features for working with patterns and themes in WordPress 6.0: WordPress 6.0 brings three new features to Themes – register selected patterns from the public pattern directory, add theme patterns to a separate folder /patterns, and add patterns that can be offered to use when creating a new page. Also check the Theme export in WP 6.0.
- Performance increase for sites with large user counts in WordPress 6.0: The websites with more than 10,000 users will see improvements in handling users.
- Changes to do_parse_request filter in WordPress 6.0: The Core Team encouraged developers to update their code run by the filter do_parse_request to return false if they are handling the request in their code.
- WP_User_Query now accepts fields options in WordPress 6.0: Prior to the WordPress 6.0 release the function WP_User_Query would only accept ID and all_with_meta/all in the fields parameter.
- FSE Program Testing Call #14: This call for testing focuses on taking a few blocks for a practical spin to create a fun, interactive recipe focused site that has a customized commenting experience to rally your recipe reviewers.
- Gutenberg Hub launches an online page builder app using WordPress Patterns: The app from Munir Kamal is still at a concept stage, but the current online version works well. Essentially, it is an interface that allows users to piece together patterns to build entire pages.
- An update on preferred languages: Pascal Birchler explains the new features he has added in the Preferred Languages plugin. You can also help with development and testing.
- WordPress core contributions by (tickets) numbers: Results of an analysis by Daniele Scasciafratte with the WordPress Core Trac tickets data. 1/3 of the tickets is just non-valid stuff. Tickets take an average of 2-3 years before to be closed when a first patch is available.
- Off forum support requests: Must-read if you have a plugin in the repository.
- Google Ads API version 10.1 released: The big additions in v10.1 include the addition of discover campaigns, campaign groups, local service campaigns and more.
- Google Search Console’s URL parameter tool is officially not working: Google today has turned off support for the URL parameter tool within Google Search Console and there is nothing specific to do.
- Google lets users limit three more types of ads on YouTube, GDN: Users can opt-in if they want to see fewer YouTube and Google Display ads for pregnancy, parenting, dating and weight loss.
- Google Search launching Signed Exchanges for desktop users: This primarily impacts sites that utilize dynamic serving with the vary user-agent header but should not impact sites using responsive web design or separate mobile and desktop URLs.
- You can remove Personally Identifiable Information (PII) from Google Search: This includes information such as phone number, email address, or physical address, login credentials and more found in Google Search.
- Google feels earnings impact from Russian War on Ukraine: Some of the negative impact on Google/Alphabet’s earnings is due to the fact that Alphabet has suspended most commercial activity in Russia.
- New Data safety section in Google Play: It allows developers to clearly mark what data is being collected and for what purpose it’s being used. Users can also see whether the app needs this data to function or if this data collection is optional.
- YouTube Super Thanks rolls out to all monetized channels: A YouTube monetization tool called Super Thanks, which allows creators to make money directly from viewers, is now available to all eligible channels.
- TikTok most downloaded app in Q1 2022: TikTok beat Instagram and Facebook. Since 2018, no app has more downloads than TikTok.This makes it just the fifth app to reach this milestone and first not under the Meta umbrella. It also revealed it has accidentally been inflating active user numbers since 2019.
- Meta announces research to create human-level AI: They are launching a long-term research project to build a next-generation AI that can learn and process speech and text in the same way the human brain does.
- Bingbot user-agent change coming in the Fall of 2022: Bing will stop using the historical user-agent and transition fully to the new user-agents.
- Microsoft Bing Ethical Shopping Hub now available in the US: The Ethical Shopping Hub provides consumers and searchers with categories like eco-friendly, upcycled, or fair-trade fashion.

- PHP Object Injection vulnerability in Booking Calendar Plugin: Please update if you are using this plugin.
- ThirstyAffiliates WordPress plugin vulnerabilities: The plugin has two vulnerabilities that can allow a hacker to inject links. It also lacks Cross-Site Request Forgery checking which can lead to a complete compromise of the victim’s website.
- Vulnerability in Anti-Malware Security and Brute-Force Firewall WordPress Plugin: The reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability found can allow an attacker to compromise an administrator level user of the affected website.
- Cloudflare names OVH and Hetzner as origins of DDOS attack: The attack appeared to follow a trend of attacks increasingly being launched from data centers instead of the traditional residential botnets.
- Attacker breach ‘Dozens’ of GitHub Repos using stolen OAuth tokens: The OAuth token access is revoked by Travis CI, Heroku, and GitHub after discovering the attack, and the affected organizations are advised to monitor the audit logs and user account security logs for malicious activity.
- A new tool that scans Open-Source repositories for malicious packages: The Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF) has announced the initial prototype release of a new tool that’s capable of carrying out dynamic analysis of all packages uploaded to popular open source repositories.
