WordPress 6.6 beta 2 is now available and we can expect the beta 3 later today. WordPress meetup organizers can now host their website for free on WordPress.com and also WooCommerce recently patched an XSS vulnerability.

Highlights from WordCamp Europe 2024

 A total of 2,584 attendees participated in the 12th annual WordPress event in Europe, held at the Lingotto Conference and Exhibition Centre in Torino, Italy. Also, the Mole Antonelliana was illuminated in celebration of WordCamp Europe and the community. Matt Mullenweg delivered a Keynote Presentation and also hosted a Q&A, and has accepted to take part in a Gutenberg Speed Build Challenge with Jessica Lyschik.

• WordCamp Europe 2025 scheduled for next June in Basel, Switzerland: Basel, Switzerland, has been selected as the host city for WordCamp Europe 2025, scheduled from June 5 to 7. The announcement was made at the conclusion of WC Europe 2024 in Torino, Italy. Switzerland, despite its small size, boasts a remarkable density of official WordPress meetup groups — 15 groups for its 8.85 million inhabitants, equating to one group per 590,000 people, the highest per capita globally.
• WordPress 6.6 Beta 2 released: The beta 2 is now available for testing. We can expect Beta 3 later today.
• Data Views update – June 2024: Anne McCarthy has provided an update on the Data Views features, which refers to an improved and reusable UI for different screens in WordPress that deal with collections of things whether that’s templates, patterns, posts, media, and more.
• WordPress Contributor Mentorship Program Q4 2024: Call for interest: An early interest form for the Q4 2024 WordPress Contributor Mentorship Program Cohort is now live. This program connects seasoned WordPress experts with newcomers, offering a fantastic opportunity for mentees to gain hands-on experience contributing to WordPress, while mentors share their expertise and improve their leadership skills. The deadline for applications is on July 15, 2024.
• The Sustainability Team’s Handbook for events is here: The first version of the Sustainable Events Handbook has been launched. If you have any suggestions or notes on the first version, contributions can be made through the GitHub repository.
• Host your WordPress meetup site for free on WordPress.com: WordPress meetup organizers can now host the WordPress meetup site for free on WordPress.com and access all of the benefits of our popular Creator plan.
• Google streamlines product listings via website crawl: Google is making it easier for merchants to surface product listings across its surfaces through automated ‘website crawl’ feeds.
• Google warns of quirk in some Hreflang implementations: Google updated their Hreflang documentation to note a quirk in how some websites are using it which (presumably) can lead to unintended consequences with how Google processes it.

Developer advisory: XSS vulnerability in WooCommerce 8.8.0 and later

WooCommerce has issued an advisory to alert the community of an XSS vulnerability in WooCommerce versions 8.8.0 and later. A patch for this issue was promptly released. 

• WordPress vulnerability report — June 12, 202: Weekly vulnerability report from SolidWP.
• 0-day Threat Hunt Bug Bounty Promo from Wordfence: Over the next month, through July 11th, 2024, all high-risk vulnerabilities in software with >= 1,000 Active Installations, exploitable by no to low privileged attackers, submitted to the Bug Bounty Program will be considered in scope for all researcher tiers, regardless of install count.
• Wordfence Intelligence Weekly WordPress Vulnerability Report (June 3, 2024 to June 9, 2024): There were 216 vulnerabilities disclosed in 181 plugins and 10 themes.

The WPCC will provide a $200-$2000 stipend to those trying to increase the visibility and frequency of DEIB topics in the WordPress community and WP community events.

• Mike Oliver has released a new website template: The Agency template is now available for WB Collective members and is suitable for agencies or freelancers. 
• Kyle Van Deusen now has a design featured in the GeneratePress Site Library: SimpliCloud is his first GeneratePress template to be featured in the library and was designed with plugin developers or software companies in mind. It is also the first Generate template to take advantage of the new Global Styles system.
• Regan Khadgi receives the Yoast Care fund for his contribution to the WordPress community: Regan Khadgi a member of the WordPress Community Team is the latest recipient of the Yoast Care fund.
