WP Engine Launches Newsroom, a Publishing Platform for Media Organizations

  • News

WP Engine unveiled a new publishing platform called Newsroom, aimed at helping media companies manage content creation and newsroom operations through a single platform.

The launch comes a month after WP Engine acquired Big Bite, bringing the company’s newsroom workflow expertise and editorial technology into WP Engine’s platform.

Addressing Challenges in Modern News Publishing

Heather Brunner, chief executive officer of WP Engine, said changes in how news is created and consumed have created new challenges for publishers, “ The way news is produced, disseminated and consumed has fundamentally changed, and much of the technology behind it was built for a different era. Publishers now face new challenges as revenue shifts from clicks to AI-driven visibility”.

She added that Newsroom brings key newsroom functions together in a single platform to help media companies scale, “ Newsroom unifies core newsroom operations in a purpose-built platform designed to accelerate growth for modern media companies, enabling them to move faster, adapt continuously, and meet audiences where they are.”

Charlotte Cijffers, chief digital officer at ITP Media Group, said the launch represents progress for digital publishing organizations, “ The release of WP Engine Newsroom represents an important step forward in how digital publishing organizations operate”.

She added that broader access to modern publishing tools can help teams move faster and reduce operational complexity, “ By making modern publishing tools more accessible, teams can work faster and with greater autonomy, reducing unnecessary friction and bloat….”

Key Features

The platform supports simultaneous work by multiple contributors without conflicts, includes pre-publication review steps to maintain editorial quality, and live news tools. Newsroom includes integrations with Bynder and Cloudinary to handle digital media assets as part of its publishing workflow.

There is also built-in analytics that give publishers real-time visibility into content performance and audience behavior. The platform also includes engagement tracking tools such as heatmaps and scroll analysis.

Additional features include tools for managing journalist profiles, support for embedding interactive elements such as charts and polls within articles, and content structuring capabilities that allow publishers to create different story formats.

WP Engine’s move places it in a space already occupied by Automattic, which offers its own publishing platform, Newspack, which powers more than 300 publishers.
